Workshops with Yvonne Meissner

First time in Seattle!

Yvonne Meissner is quite simply one of the most distinctive, interesting, and refined dancers--male or female--dancing in the world today. In a dance that tends to be stylistically defined by the lead's role, Yvonne stands out as the singular exception with a style that gives the follow's role new vibrancy. She must be seen to be believed. For more information on Yvonne and her partner Eduardo Aguirre, see her Web site at http://www.torito.nl/yvonne. Check back frequently for updates on Yvonne's workshops in Port Townsend on Sunday, July 13, and for her availability for private lessons. Space is filling fast, so contact us as soon as possible to reserve a time at info@tango42.biz or call us at 206 525 5928.

Body Works: Secrets of the Hips and Torsion in Your Dancing

Yvonne is well-known for her use of torsion in her dancing to help create a connection that allows space and opportunity for her signature adornments and rhythmic accents. Follows will especially appreciate this workshop, as it will lay the foundation for unlocking a range of possibilities for the follower's movements that previously would have seemed impossible. Leads will appreciate her analysis of the embrace that makes this style possible.

Level: Intermediate/advanced

Location: Experience Shoes, 912 Alaskan Way (Seattle waterfront, under the viaduct across from the ferry terminal)

Cost: $20

Friday, July 11, 7:30-9:00 p.m.

Decorations on a Crowded Floor for Him and Her: Secrets from Almagro Viejo

Yvonne is perhaps best known for her uncanny ability to adorn, embellish, accent, and otherwise dance--really DANCE--within the confines of the close embrace and the context of the lead. Her movements, many of which seem impossible to the uninitiated, never disturb or compete with the lead in any way, and always add to the shared experience of the dance. In this workshop, she shares her techniques for how this is accomplished.

Level: Intermediate/advanced

Location: Century Ballroom, before the dance. Performances during the dance by Yvonne and guests.

Workshop only: $15 Workshop and dance: $20
